Weekly Challenge: 1

Flash the Farm Dog says 'Git ready fer the Farm Girls Challenge'

Can you feel it? Can you smell it? Fall is in the air!

So to all you lovers of summer, it's time to retire your beach bag and put on an apron and bake a pie!

I love a good challenge, so L and I decided to challenge our "blog groupies".

I have been thinking about the harvest and how busy it has been around our farm and how busy farmers are right now. Summer for a farmer isn’t an endless BBQ, it doesn’t involve taking long trips away from home and there is never a "lazy day". A farmer is an "ant"; working hard while the days are long to support there families. Did you realize that sometimes three generations of family rely on the money from one farm?

So we are asking you; have you ever had a blueberry right off the bush? Have you ever taken a bite of fresh corn that you just picked while standing out in the field (raw)?

We challenge you to support your local farmer this weekend. Instead of buying produce at your grocery store; go to the farmer’s market, stop at a road side stand and talk to the person that grows the food you are buying. With what you have purchased, go home and create something delicious for you and your family.

L and I want to hear about your experience; tell us where you went, what you learned, what you purchased and what you went home to cook, bake or create. When we receive your post, we will enter you in our giveaway next week.

We look forward to hearing from you!

J and L

Hi Girlies.
Tuesday, Roadside Corn.
A young boy and his dad selling corn by the Snohomish Airport. Straight out of an old 70's Chevy farm truck. The sign said 10 for a dollar, but the kid threw in a few extra. As we were walking away the dad explained to the kid about how not to give the farm away.
Today: Cukes from the lady down the road. She had way way too many. So we made pickles today.
Good Times..

I'm on it girls! The Hubs and I stopped at our local corn maze farm yesterday for apples and corn. Then we headed up the road to find a new little organic farm that had stuff advertised on Craigslist. It was so fun! It reminded me of growing up. Sitting in the middle of a pea field and eating the peas right out fo the pod, grabbing an apple off the tree as you were riding by on your bike, and the smell of the harvest.
For summer jobs, I picked strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and a brief career in cucumbers. :-)
Thank you for this post. I hope everyone gets out and supports their local farmer.

I go to my local farmer's stand most every day. It is a blessing to be able to eat off the land even when you don't have your own land. Great Challenge!
